What to Expect at Your First Chiropractic Appointment

If you’re reading this page right now, odds are you have either: never been to a chiropractor, or are looking for a new one. Either way, welcome!

In this guide, we will break down the steps involved in your first chiropractic appointment. We hope that this post can remove the uncertainty and fear that comes with experiencing something new. This way, you can go into your first appointment confidently and see exactly what chiropractic care can do for you!

Before You Arrive

Even before you book your appointment or step foot in the building, you can take care of the necessary paperwork. We have included each of the required documents on our website so that you can print them out and fill in the necessary information before you arrive. This will save time so that you can fully focus on your chiropractic experience while you are here.

However, if you don’t have a printer, or just forgot to fill out the forms before arriving, we will be happy to provide you with copies.

Come Early for a Tour

If you’d like to see the facility before your appointment, we’d be happy to provide you with a tour and answer any questions you may have. We know that you have many choices when it comes to your chiropractic care, and we’re honored that you chose us!

Evaluation

Once you are taken back to the treatment room for your evaluation, your chiropractor will begin by reviewing your medical history. He will want to get a good idea of what issues have affected your health in the past and any current problems for which you are seeking chiropractic care.

After addressing your history and health concerns, your chiropractor will then conduct a physical examination. He will have you move in different ways, will ask you about your symptoms while you are in various positions, and he will use whatever tools are necessary to get the most accurate picture of your current condition.

Your evaluation may consist of x-ray imaging, reflex testing, and many other methods.

Evaluation Review and Consent to Treat

Once your chiropractor has obtained all of the necessary evaluation data, he will review his findings with you. Your chiropractor wants to ensure that you are comfortable with what he has found and that you consent for him to conduct treatment.

Chiropractic Treatment

After your evaluation is complete, you’ve reviewed the findings with your chiropractor, and have consented to your chiropractor’s plan; you’re ready to receive your first chiropractic treatment.

There are many different treatment modalities (AKA methods) which your chiropractor may choose to use based on your individual needs. There is no single method that works for everyone, therefore your chiropractic treatment may look quite different than your neighbors!

Follow Up and Scheduling

Again, every patient case is different. For this reason, your chiropractor may advise you to schedule appointments once a month, three times a week, or anywhere in between. You can select a time that is convenient for your schedule so that you can get back to being the healthiest version of yourself!
